AFF Level 5

You will only have one intructor with you for this jump. The freefall learning objectives are to relax and fall stable in an arched position; maintain altitude, heading, and body position awareness; control your freefall unassisted; turn in a controlled manner (starting and stopping), and wave off at 5000 ft and deploy the main parachute. You should begin learning packing procedures.

Freefall TLO's
  • Relaxed Arch
  • Altitude Awareness
  • Heading maintenance
  • Body position awareness and wind pressure
  • 360 degree turn
  • Forward movement
  • Maintain stability
  • Unassisted waveoff and pull at 5,000 feet
Canopy TLO's
  • Choose landing pattern
  • Deep-brake flight and turns above 1000 feet
  • Keep aware and clear of other canopies
  • Fly landing pattern (radio standby)
  • Flared landing (radio standby)

Dive Flow:

  • Climb out
  • Roach Hotel check
    • "Check in",("OK")
  • Exit count
    • (Prop! Up, down, arch, arch, arch!)
  • Circle of Awareness
  • Instructor moves to front of student
  • 360 degree turn to the left
  • Instructor backs up
  • Forward movement to instructor. Instructor docks.
  • Check altitude:
    • If above 6,000 feet, "Yes turns", 360 degree turn opposite of last turn, then back, then forward movement to instructor
    • If at or below 6,000 feet, "No more turns", short circles
  • 6,000 feet - lock onto altimeter
  • 5,000 feet - wave off and Pull!
    • (Arch, reach, throw, check, "1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 4,000")
  • Check canopy
    • (Square, Stable, Steerable)
